The Futures Falcons lost their match against FC Barcelona 0-2 at the programme’s home in Salou, Spain, in a match that formed part of Group B of the fifth edition of Al Abtal Cup.
The match began with Barcelona having greater possession of the ball, while Futures Falcons attacked with intensity when they could, threatening their opponent’s goal on a few occasions and attempting to break the Barcelona pressure. As the first half settled into its rhythm it saw periods when the match was evenly balanced and locked in a tight midfield battle. These tussles in the centre of the park did not result in any changes to the scoreline though, and the first half ended in a goalless draw.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half, precisely six minutes after the restart, when player Tonkara sent in a left-footed cross from the right side that caught the Saudi goalkeeper off guard and found the back of the net. In the 63rd minute, Barcelona doubled their lead when striker Boyel broke free from the defence, calmly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to score the second goal. What remained of the game saw no further goals, and the match ended with a 0-2 victory for Barcelona.
